A few months ago, I submitted an article to a popular blog that was looking to bring on new writers to keep things fresh for their readers. I love their content and I was excited to add to it. I reviewed their article submission guidelines, wrote my article, and submitted it to them for review. They did not publish it. However, I learned something valuable from that experience. While I was writing that article, I found myself so preoccupied with their style and format requirements that it overshadowed the message I was trying to impart to their readers. Their requirements were like the elephant in the room, distracting and impossible to ignore, as I added content to the page. I wrote the article, but it wasn’t as good as it could have been.
HSP’s, where your creativity is concerned, you do not need to conform. Your creativity is negatively impacted when you do. Write your own blog. Cook the way that you want to. Draw the way that you want to. Teach a class the way you want to. Make pottery the way you want to. You can see where I am going with this : ) In so many areas of our lives, we have to conform. However, when it comes to your self-expression, there is no room for conformity, only authenticity.
